The Alberta Baton Twirling Association (ABTA) is the sport governing body for baton twirling in the province of Alberta and is a member of the Canadian Baton Twirling Federation (CBTF).


The ABTA is able to assist athletes in their pursuit of excellence in baton twirling. ABTA is a non-profit organization operated by a dedicated Board of Directors with representatives from each region in the province.


ABTA is dedicated to growth and development of the sport of baton twirling and its athletes. It offers competition at local, regional, provincial, national and international levels. The role of the ABTA is one of provincial coordination, club support and development and financial assistance.

The Canadian Baton Twirling Federation (CBTF) is the sport governing body for baton twirling in Canada.


It began in 1979 as Twirl Canada and in 1984 became known as the Canadian Baton Twirling Federation.


It is a member of the World Baton Twirling Federation (WBTF) and now the newly formed International Baton Federation (IBTF).


CBTF is responsible for creating and updating National skill development programs such as the Badge Program along with developing both coaching and judging courses to ensure excellence in the sport of baton in Canada.


CBTF is run by a dedicated Board of Directors with representatives from each Provincial body.

 The International Baton Twirling Federation (IBTF) is a non-profit organization created to foster the advancement and development of baton twirling in countries that desire to join together as members of the common goal of unity.

​A secondary goal of the IBTF is to provide these member countries with the opportunity to participate in and contribute to the improvement of the sport of baton twirling.With these two primary goals in mind, we also seek:

  • To conduct World Championship competitions in each of our governed disciplines
  • To become the single governing body for the sport of baton twirling internationally
  • To create accreditation mechanisms for coaches and adjudicators of the disciplines we govern
